Whether it’s your first time reading, or you’re a seasoned vet, this article goes up and down the DraftKings or Fan Duel’s salary list, and talks about plays and strategies that could be “against the grain.” If you’re not a golfer, putting against the grain is the reference to the way a “green” is cut and if one is going “against the grain” you’re putting away from it.

Recap of Last Week’s Article:

Well: Nailed the Stenson call!

First: Stenson with Moore Lowry cauley Bradley worked out pretty darn well!

Second: Ew…Emiliano Grillo and summerhays

Third: Werenski- definitely a positive one there.

Personal FanDuel Results:

In a matter of full transparency, I am going to post my results weekly, and give you my top four owned guys across the board. If you’ve been following me since my days with Fantasy Golf Insider, you know it’s important that I implement some, if not all my suggested plays.

Core Players in the golden eagle: Stenson/Tway/Hahn/Moore/Cauley

Top Results: Well i was able to cash my single bullet in the 333 with only 5/8 making it to Sunday…not bad… but i whiffed on the 1060 buy in as i had three miss the cut…ugh brutal.

GPP-FanDuel Contests This Week:

No change in the contests this week… Kind of disappointing. BUT they bring the single entries back at least.

Mass-Entry GPP

$333- 30K Monster (8K to first) The high priced buy in has a max of 10 lineups this week.
$25- 20K Driver (2.5K to first) 28 entries max here for this mid price buy in.
$4- 100K Eagle (20K to first) The standard…It fills every week without a problem.150 Max.
Limited Entry GPP

$1,060- 15K Club House (6K to first) – Interestingly enough you can have 3 entries into this 15 person entry tournament… Doubt anyone will do that
$1- 11K Flop Shot (1K to first)- Well FD got rid of most those cool 7 entry and 5 entry max they put out last week, maybe they lost some $$ on it?? Who knows… still this is all we got this week a 5 entry $1.
Player Focus- Whyndam Championship

$50- 4K Fairway($800 to first)- The first of the single entry series. Not bad for 800 to first.

$25- 4.5K Pin Seeker ($600 to first)- mid-low buy in for this single entry… pays out 600 to first.

$5- 4K Caddie ($500 to first)- the first of two low dollar single entry contests.

$1- 4K Hole in One ($400 to first)- The lowest of the single entry sereis… 400 to first place in this 4240 person contest.

Player Focus- Northern Trust

***Note that just because a golfer is listed as part of the Game Theory Analysis, it does not mean that I am recommending playing them unless specified otherwise. ***

$9,000 and Up

We adjust for the lack of players priced above 9K. Still only 10 players fit this mold.

Highest Owned: Rickie Fowler

Lowest Owned: Rory McIlroy

GTA (Game Theory Analysis): Wow. I’ve never seen tighter pricing on FD. Oddly comparable to DK’s pricing, as somehow this week the pricing algorithms were aligned. One thing it well create though is a bit of an ownership bubble with Matsuyama and Fowler, who are certainly two of the favorites coming in, and have some great value Vs. their DK price. Those two will be the highest owned stack of any two golfers out there,  This will create a bit of a breakdown for some of the other golfers in this category including Spieth Stenson and Thomas. The tighter pricing may also lower the appeal to guys like Koepka and Casey when you can spend 400 more and get Fowler. Let’s try and use this to our advantage when making lineups this week. If you want to get Rory at a very low ownership, this is the time to do it, but buyer beware, we have no idea where his head is at.

The Top Play: As with any GPP focused strategy, to be atop the standings on Sunday you must find the low owned star. Low owned on fanduel really means anything less than 20%. I see Casey Spieth and Kopeka all under that mark…Let’s take your favorite of the three and pair them with your favorite chalk. (DJ/Mats/Fowler)

$8-7000’s

17 golfers fit this tier.
.
Highest Owned:  Molinari

Lowest Owned: Holmes/Mickelson

GTA: This price category is also again, very tight. I suspect ownership will be pretty evenly spread, but with Molinari being the lowest price in the category, i’m sure he’ll get a ton of looks coming off his runner up performance at the PGA. The most interesting thing of the week, at least IMO, is that Tony Finau is $1000 more expensive on FD than on DK…Someone got it wrong, and early signs are pointing to DK. Branden Grace also falls into that category of being more expensive on FD than DK coming in at 7200, i would get my exposure on DK as there are plenty of better options below him here on FD than to spend the money on him. The top end of this price range will defintley be lower owned than most as Rahm and  Kuchar are too close to the likes of Fowler to garner a ton of censorship.

The Top Play: It really is hard to get away from Molinari at this price so if you want to eat the chalk here we need to pair him with someone like Kevin Kisner who will be out of favor coming off a weak performance at the Wyndham.

6000s

20 golfers in this category

Highest Owned: Gary Woodland/Ryan Moore/ Cantlay

GTA : A slew of young promising players (cantlay, ollie) mixed with some tour vets (moore& woodland) makes this PC very intriguing. Other guys that i suspect will also get some views are Schwartzel/Poulter/Bradley, but that should create some great opportunities in the likes of Brian Harman and Adam Hadwin. The X-man falls into this PC as well, but has also fallen out of form over the last few weeks, and could present a nice pivot from the higher owned poulter/woodland. Jimmy Walker hasn’t shown us that he an go 4 rounds at his best yet, so i’d stay away until he shows it.

Top Play: Well i’ve stuck with Ollie and Patick all year, so why stop now? Let’s add in Brian Harman for some positive lineup variance.

5900 and Below:

73 Golfers fit this category.

Highest Owned:  Graham DeLaet…Really?

Lowest Owned: Plentiful

GTA & Top Play: Well the bulk of the golfers fall here, but not the bulk of the talent. This is where we try to bring everything into play, every possible stat, recent start, or any type of course history. Our cheatsheet does a great job at presenting some great options there. Russell Knox leads with GDL Chez Reavie Kyle Stanley and Stweart Cink round out the top 5. A late addition to the playoffs, and playing some great golf right now, is Rory Sabbatini. He’s lit up latley and also comes in 9th on tour from the 125-150 approach range. Much like him is Harold Varner who ranks 16th on tour and made his way to this week by playing great golf last week. The last name we will mention here is Jason Kokrak, who comes in off a fantastic weekend and rides some pretty good comparable course history placing 7th last year at Bethpage.
