Whether it’s your first time reading, or you’re a seasoned vet, this article goes up and down the DraftKings or Fan Duel’s salary list, and talk about plays and strategies that could be “against the grain.” If you’re not a golfer, putting against the grain is the reference to the way a “green” is cut and if one is going “against the grain” you’re putting away from it.

Recap of Last Week’s Article: Top Category- Recommended Spieth/Matsuyama and that would have helped big time! Mid Price- said to go low on Molinari, Kaymer, and Oost so I get 1/3 of a point there. Value Section- Chappell and Berger ½ point there. Punt Section- I mentioned Peperrall and a few other good punt plays that made the cut so I’ll give myself a full point there for 2.875 points last week out of a possible 4.

My Fan Duel Results- Well, I missed out on the gladiator, but did end up in 17th in the 555 monster. Not a bad showing, not great either.

Fan Duel Contests This Week: Really nailing the product, FD put some money behind its contest this week.

$4 Eagle- 100K GTD– 20K to first for this contest with a 150 max entry.

$33 Driver- 50K GTD- 10K to first in this mid dollar buy in.  Max of 53 entries for this contest.

$333 PGA Monster 60K GTD- 20K first place with a max of 30 entries here.

$1 PGA Flop Shot 10K GTD- 5 entry max and a $1,000 first place for a 1$ buy in is pretty awesome! Love this contest for beginners!

Since Fan Duel’s salaries are a bit lower than DK’s, as a result, we spread out the price categories a bit.

  • Projections:

Highest Owned: Jordan & JT- 20%+

Lowest Owned: Casey- 10-15%

GTA (Game Theory Analysis): I really think that the ownership is going to very evenly spread out on this top price category, and thus hard to create variance if you go all in. I think that Paul Casey probably goes lowest owned here just because the pricing is so tight at the top that most people will probably spend the extra couple hundo and go to JT. If you’re an MME person and looking to create variance from this price group, I would recommend committing to one and going very overweight that person.

The Top Play:  Stack 4 of them in one lineup, really any four. You’re going to be left with a bunch of deep dives, but if those deep dives hit, you’re set up to be up towards the top of a GPP come Sunday. Even stacking the 4 top priced guys is doable this week! See below. Again, I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re only doing 1 lineup, but if you’re doing a few, you should be able to get a 4 stack of these guys low owned.

$8,999-$7,000: 21 golfers fit this category:

 Highest Owned: Stanley- 20%

Lowest Owned: McGirt- 5%

GTAWe find the defending champion in this price category along with some big-time salary differences between DK and FD. It’s a strategy I’ve been talking about for quite some time, and should help identify value. The first guy that pops off here is Kyle Stanley. He is 1600 less on FD than he is on DK and is working on a darn good season. Marc Lieshman and Brendan Steele are the two next guys on this list and are 1000 and 800 cheaper on FD, respectively. I’d stay away on FD from Grillo/Hadwin/An and get your exposure through DK, as the price is much better. If you want to roster 1/3 I’d pick Hun-An.

The Top PlaySteele/Lieshman stack…I mean look at the salary flexibility you still have left!

$6,999-$6,000: 33 golfers fit this category

Highest Owned: Furyk- 15%

Lowest Owned: David Hearn-3%

GTA: Mr. 58 is 2000 less on FD. Yup 2K. A few other guys are also significantly less on FD than DK>Lingmerth/Campbell/Lahiri/X-man/Summerhays/Tway. All represent pretty good value here as long as they make the cut. Ownership is quite spread out here, and with not one guy getting over 15%, you can create a ton of variance by stacking three of the above listed guys on your squad. Here’s what one of those stacks would look like.

The Top Play: Jim Furyk

$5,999 and Below –83 golfers this week.

Fan Duel’s Deep Dive.

Trey Mullinax – Lowest projected is a ton of guys below 1%.

GTA & Top Play:  At 4800, rookie starter Wyhndam Clark is in a perfect spot to make the cut in his first Tour appearance as a pro, and is the best of the deep dives in the 4K salary range. I’d also like to take a look at Hughes, Herman, C.T. Pan, Ruffles, Lamb, Armor and Hubbard. The GTA in this category is to always try and find a few divers that you think will make the cut, and mix two or three of them in with 2/3 studs.
