Make the Turn :

If this is your first time reading “Make the Turn” then you’ll quickly find out it’s a great place to turn for weekend only golf picks.

Last Week’s Results: Last week we featured one of  the biggest movers, Billy Hurley, and recommended Bryan, Donald, and Cantlay as viable options. For perspective that was 2,9,10 for DK-Weekend only points earned.

Strategy Corner:

An extremely intriguing salary breakout for weekend-only this week, as the four highest priced golfers are at least 5 back of the lead. Will that lead to higher ownerships, or will the masses still go with the leaders, i.e. Cauley/Finau? For the first two weeks of weekend only contests we’ve seen the 36 leaders not even come close to top 10 DK points scored for the weekend. We believe that strategy prevails this weekend.

Heads up: DK hasn’t updated this yet, but it’s my guess that it will be 10:40 AM EST. First tee time listed  is 9:40am local time.

Week Long Contests:

First, I want to give you guys a quick review of some stats I saw from this week’s contests and what you might need to to get to the top come Sunday!

Percentage of Lineups with 6/6: 12-13% of the lineups in this week’s GPP contests have 6/6 that made the cut.

Top Score: 339 in the Dogleg and 373 in the PGA 4$ fore

Lowest Score 6/6: 186.50 We were able to top our score worst 6/6 of last week with this lineup.

Player Focus

“Weekend Warriors”: These are golfers that are outside the top 10 headed into the weekend, who we expect to be moving up the leaderboard. To move up the leaderboard on moving day, you need to make birdies and eagles, and that means DK points, no matter the format.

Brooks Koepka  (50/1 $9,900)-T36 (-2)

If you were able to catch any PGA Tour Live over the first two days, you know it featured Brooks for 36 holes. We saw flashes of brilliance, and the 2017 Koepka, but with the cut behind him, it’ll be fire away only 6 back of the lead.

Charley Hoffman (100/1$9,800)-T10 (-6)

Hoffman’s game has obviously cooled off since the bad weekend at Augusta, but he has some great history here. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sneak into the top 15, only 3 back of that, come Sunday afternoon.

JJ Spaun  (40/1 $8,000)-T17 (-4)

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Spaun’s second round, you should. It’s pictured below. Not much else is needed for me to recommend him this weekend.

Brian Gay (80/1 $7,500)-T17 (-4)

Brian is playing some truly inspired golf right now starting last weekend at the RBC. He was third in DK points scored with 44.5  for the weekend followed by two solid rounds here. We expect him to continue that strong form into the weekend.

Shawn Stefani (250/1 $7,200)- T26 (-3)

A tough back 9 for Stefani, capped off by missing a putt inside 10ft on his 18th hole of the day, puts him 5 back heading into Saturday. He’s hitting it well off the tee as well as his approach shots, gaining at least a stroke on the field in each category.

Ryan Brehm (150/1 $7,100)-T17 (-4)

Only 2 bogeys over his two rounds, as well as a hole out eagle, Brehm’s bogey avoidance should keep close to the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon. That will eventually turn into more aggressive play, which should yield more birdie looks.

“Sunday Staples”: These are guys inside the top 10 of the leaderboard, but don’t expect their game to drop off at all as we expect them to continue to make eagles and birdies, making them must haves on your weekend only teams.

Jimmy Walker (14/1 $9300) T10 (-5)

We here at Tour Level have had our own personal bouts with Lyme Disease, and understand what it does to your body. Without turning this into a medical report, I can tell you that the medication makes him very sensitive to the sun. It looks like he’ll start it after this week, but since Augusta he has at least known what the disease is, and what he can do to be better prepared. Thus, we don’t think it’ll affect his game and only 3 back I expect this guy to be in the final two groups on Sunday.

Kevin Chappell (7/1 $8600) T3 (-7)

Is it his time? Here’s a guy that has multiple runner up finishes, tons of top 10’s, but has never been able to hoist the trophy. He’s in a great spot to do that, coming in with some fantastic form off the top 5 at the Masters, and both rounds in the 60’s the last two days. Do not bet against this guy, the streak ends this weekend.

Sung Kang (30/1 $7900) T10 (-5)

The dude is playing great golf right now. Add another two under par rounds to his belt as Kang is really coming on strong as of late. I don’t know if he edges out fellow pairing mate Chappell but I do expect him to make a move over the weekend.

Cam Smith (14/1 $7600) T3 (-7)

Wow! Cam shot up the leaderboard today shooting a 7 under 65, the best round of the week thus far. Hailing from Australia, you know he’s used to windy conditions, and looks to use that experience to help stay in contention over the weekend.
