Make the Turn : Wells Fargo

If this is your first time reading “Make the Turn” then you’ll quickly find out it’s a great place to turn for weekend only golf picks.

Last Week’s Results: Dylan Fritteli was one of the top point scorer’s last week, but the rest of our picks were marginal.

Strategy Corner:

For the fourth consecutive week of weekend only golf, the leaders have amassed a ton of ownership, and not a ton of points. Pablo Lazzrabal finished in the 40’s in terms of weekend DK scoring after leading the tournament heading into the weekend.

Weekend Only (WO) Player Focus

“Weekend Warriors”: These are golfers that are outside the top 10 heading into the weekend, who we expect to be moving up the leader board. To move up the leader board on moving day, you need to make birdies and eagles, and that means DK points, no matter the format.

Dustin Johnson (9/1 $10,500) T54 (+1) His odds still absolutely stink, but, for DK purposes at 10.5K being only X back of the leaders, DJ is a DK points machine. With tremendous value below him, it’ll be much easier to roster him. He’ll also go out much earlier than the leaders which could provide a chance to apply pressure on them.

Phil Mickelson (28/1 $9,300) T35 (-1) Phil had an exceptional round going, before his unforced double on 17. He was green side in 2 but chunked one into the bunker and wasn’t able to get up and down for bogey. Regardless of that he’s only back, and seems to really be striking it well. We know Phil makes tons of birdies no matter where he finishes so that makes him very much in the running for weekend DK points.

JB Holmes (22/1 $8200) T15 (-3) A tough day in the elements in round 2 for JB shooting a 2 over 74, but the weekend is expected to have good weather, and with the way JB played in round 1, I expect him to return to that form and make a run being only 2 back.

JT Poston (200/1 $7,700) T47 (E) Poston at one point had it to -3 and was only 2 back of the lead, but he wasn’t able to keep that form the rest of the round and tailed back to even par. However he managed 7 birdies over the first two rounds, even in the tough conditions, so I expect a number of birdies from Poston over the weekend.

David Lingmerth (175/1 $7,500) ?? (?) Lingmerth, still on the course as of this writing, seems to finally be finding some form. He has 8 birdies through 34 holes and finds himself only a couple back of the lead. This course seems to fit him, and as we mentioned earlier, seems to be rounding into form. At 7500 paired with the guy coming next, will provide the utmost salary flexibility to roster DJ (and the guy coming up in Sunday staples)

*****Streb ($7,200)- He replaces Hoge cause Hoge missed the cut… or presumable will

“Sunday Staples”: These are guys inside the top 10 of the leaderboard, but don’t expect their game to drop off at all as we expect them to continue to make eagles and birdies, making them must haves on your weekend only teams.

Jon Rahm (4.5/1 $9,800) -4 (T4) Rahm is almost an auto roster in a hole by hole scoring format only. There’s not much more that needs to be said here, the guys an absolute points machine.

Nick Taylor( 45.1 $7,600) -4 (T4) One of two Taylors that sit in a T4 right now, but nick’s odds are better so he gets the nod. A really great round yesterday to jetsend him up the leaderboard, Nick’s put himself into contention. I will say he only has 7 birdies over the frist 2 rounds, so he may be a better “odds pick” than a DK pick. Look to his last name sharing partner Vaughn for a DK.

Brai Harman (18/1 $7,700) -4 (T4) One of the best putters on tour, Brian comes in with a great chance to win. He’s been playing great as of late searching for his 3 top 10 in 4 starts. Harman’s consistent play and hot putter should yield points over the weekend.
