My name is Scott McAfee aka @Scottimac11 on Twitter, Draft Kings, and Fanduel. I will continue our unique prospective this week covering cash game in this “Making the Cut” at The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. I was also Ranked in the top 40 in the 2016 Rotogrinders PGA rankings (it’s the only real measure). I have a degree in finance and work as a trader as my day job. I love to chat about DFS golf on twitter so free feel to chat with me @Scottimac11
As with all of our content and tools here at Tour Level we aim to help you make better decisions in all of your fantasy golf/golf betting related items. The main purpose of this article his to help you “make the cut” with emphasis on cash games. For a more in depth analysis on GPP’s be sure to check out top ranked @DFSGolfer23 Jason’s Against the Grain Series on Tuesday as well as Kelly McCann’s “Chalk…or not” report due out on Wednesday
Recap Of the US Open
It was Brooks Koepka Week, and man what a week it was. Brooks survived the carnage of a tournament that provided us with a less than 2 percent average 6/6 in any tournament. I personally thought it was a great venue and the course did its job eliminating players that weren’t on top of their game and still rewarded great golf, not to mention it was beautiful. We got to witness the lowest round in US open history by our boy Justin Thomas, what a round! We also got to see trusty Brian Harman who navigated the course with precision not distance. I look forward to the US Open but i have never had success playing DFS for the US Open. Now the Travelers, we can get after again, the course of Furyk and his 58, lots of scoring and lots of fun, with a semi loaded and top heavy field.
If you have ever been to Las Vegas and woke up the next morning, there is an IV shuttle called Hangover Heaven, I’m trying to think of a way to invent this for DFS Im still feeling the pain from my disaster of a weekend on Draft Kings, not only did i get crushed but then a guy I am Normally overweight on wins the whole thing and for some reason I wasnt this week and he was a perfect fit. The great thing about this is there is always a lesson to be learned each week and just have to grow from it. The lesson this week is follow the spreadsheets and form generator and it should have picked up on a few of these problems. I had waaaaaaayyy too much Jason Day, Adam Scott and Molinari. Of course Kuchar Almost hit the back door Top 10 again. I did do great in weekend H2H and double ups though, having Koepka and Thomas paved the way.
In the essence of full disclosure of TLF my H2H record was a whopping 14 and 46. I only got 3 guys through on the cut as both of our cash games locks misses the cut, These were my first two misses on locks in 5 weeks so lets not stray from the plan. It was just a crazy week of carnage from a lot of guys and at least it was entertaining.
Cash Line #1 entered in 30 events – 209
Cash line #2 entered in 30 events -197
Cash Vs GPP Comparison
3.5M Fantasy Golf Millionaire – cash line was 318.50
PGA 300k Best Ball -cash line was 325
PGA 500k Birdie – cash line was 325.50
Matchups VS The Pros
This week Saulgoodman23 picked off a couple of my $20 Dollar Lineups. Saul had 5/6 make the cut and actually was one of the higher H2H scores I played against at 324.00
AS you can see with Spieth and Stenson he had more success with his two studs that can win approach, Spieth making the cut as a stud really helped.
Again this week we will deploy our “Normal” strategy. We will continue to use 2 studs and fill out the last 4 spots of the lineups with guys we think will reach value. These remaining 4 must have good recent form, good recent stats that we can spot for the Recent Form Generator, and good course history. Remember if you’re going to play the big GPP’s you must play a cash game for an equal dollar amount. I will continue you with standard 50 H2H matchups and 20-25 single entry and double ups. Yes this is a repeat paragraph because we need to stick to the plan and strategy because it works.
I’m going to focus on the stats that @DFSjimmie wrote about in his “First Tee” article. Strokes gained on Approach, Par 4 scoring and Birdie or Better. Its a scoring week where the winner has been below -20 a couple times. Gotta have guys that can score.
Cash Game Locks
Marc Leishman ($9300) – Leishman played great at the Us Open, since no SG stats are posted from the US Open, we have to go back to previous weeks and he was positive Strokes gained on Approach, he also has solid stats related to course success as well showing up at 9th in my model. Course History is good with 5/5 on making cuts with 3 top 10 and a victory.
Brendan Steele ($9000)- Brendan Steele played really good golf last weekend At Erin Hills and put up a ton of Draft Kings points. He is a scoring machine and this course is a lot easier. His course History is 5/6 with 5 top 25’s and 3 top 15’s. I think Steele Contends this week.
Charley Hoffman ($7300) – Charley put up a great showing last week as well. He is obviously a guy that can go low and put up DK points. Hes been much more consistent this year and is actually my 5th highest rated overall, His course History is 6/6 with a couple Top 10’s.
Webb Simpson ($6900) – Webb made the cut last week at a very tough event. Webb has picked up almost a whole Stroke On Strokes Gained on approach over the last two weeks not counting US Open. Webb is 6/6 with a couple top 10’s here. If Webb’s putter heats up i think we see a top 10.
Filling out the Lineups
Bud Cauley ($7400)- I love playing Bud Cauley in Par 70 events, hes great with irons off the tee and seems to always have a couple low rounds built in him in these events. He is a great Ball striker and his SG APP are both almost a whole stroke. Has an 11th mixed in here at TPC River Highlands
Byeong Hun An ($7100)- B.An is more than a full stroke gained on Ball Striking and almost a full Stroke on SG APP, he had a great opening round at Erin Hills but feel apart on Saturday. This course fits him well, no course History to go off of, but hes one of the most consistent players this year, so i have no fear here.
Bubba Watson ($8400)- I cant decide if this is risky or not, but “m personally going for it in one of my lineups. He has 4 tops 5’s with two victories here. I also think he will be a bit chalky this doesn’t matter for cash, but Bubba puts up DK points Bubba is just less than a stroke gained on SG APP, we know he is crafty, and we know he loves playing here, i think we see the Bubba walk a few times after some great shots.
Best of luck this week
Feel free to reach out with any questions this week prior to Lock, I haven’t seen anything yet on weather but will be sure to post an update on Wednesday. @Scottimac11 on twitter
